Great for kids to swim, as the lake is shallow around the shores. A 3 hour boat trip around the lagoon will take you to most of the interesting locations. It did start to get a bit crowded in the afternoon which made it a little challenging when trying to enjoy the cenotes.

If you love beaches and water this place is for you. The colors of the lake are unbelievable, the temperature of the water amazing, the Cenotes and the change of colors incredible. We drove 3 hours from Tulum for a day trip and it was 100% worth it. Next time though I will stay one or two nights to spend more time there. Highly recommended for nature lovers.

This place was a lot of fun. Great for wakeboarding and skiing. Be sure to put on sun lotion.

The lake is amazing and is still unspoiled by mass tourism.
We had a boat tour with stops to bath and swim which is clearly the best way to see the lake.

What an amazing lake, clear water, feels refreshing and calm being there, not deep unless you go to the cenotes parts

I read about Lake Bacalar while in the states, and did the research prior to signing up for this tour. It is about an hour away from Costa Maya cruise port or the fishing village of Mahahual. It's variations of blues and clear fresh water make it quite an amazing sight to see, especially Pirate's Canal.
Next time I go, it will be considerably longer than for the day.

It really is a colorful lake.
If you want to relax and enjoy a place with less people, I would definitely recommend this as a location you want to visit!
If you’re looking for a break from the party atmosphere that is Cancun, then this is the spot for you.

This was a fantastic trip and definitely a highlight of our vacay. The lake is stunning, and the colors of the water amazing. Spent the day boating and kayaking in perhaps the most peaceful place in Mexico.
